"Minutiae" opens @ Rosebed St Gallery

Rosebed St Gallery's saw it's official exhibition opening last Friday night for Minutiae.  A massive crowd gathered in support of a special little gallery in down town Eudlo.

Minutiae (n, pl the small, precise, or trivial details of something: "the minutiae of everyday life") is a wonderful showcase of 430+ artworks from 43 artists (me included) and is Rosebed's annual end of year takeaway art small's exhibition, which means, artworks can be taken home once purchased (link contained within for details).

Curated by gallery owner Maya Cater-Malins Minutiae is a delightful mix of artworks at affordable prices, if your in the area and would like to support local....

Two Group Exhibitions - Two Galleries

It can be so exhilarating and inspiring exhibiting amongst other creatives, I never cease to be amazed by the talent of other artists, for me its so inspirational I end up going into creative overload and over drive and being a live-wire for days...!  Its almost like I should go and get therapy for it.  

Two fab galleries; Studio 4 Gallery, Marcoola and Rosebed St Gallery, Eudlo (which I might add.... are two local professional galleries that nurture, support and provide us with a venue to showcase our art works and reach a wider audience) are both currently showcasing a group exhibition, that feature my ceramic assemblages, so if your in the area...

new assemblages exhibiting

Last Friday night saw the official opening of Small Works/Small Town Exhibition at Rosebed St Gallery, in the quaint little township of Eudlo.  Recently featuring on the television show Better Homes & Gardens only a few months ago, the gallery is a hive of activity and oozing with funk!  Always a wonderfully curated show, the girls Annie Burns and Maya Carter-Malins really know how to deliver and never fail to showcase an amazing array of artworks.

Small Works/ Small Town is Rosebed St Gallery's annual summer showcase - a 'takeaway art' exhibition - its a great format where buyers can take the artwork with them instantly upon their purchase, practical and a great idea for the seasoned visitor!

I just happened to have some new small assemblages coming through in the studio and submitted an EOI and was selected to exhibit, among many other talented artists. A few images on show, (to save me time...all the finer details are all on my website :-)

What does 'Tribe' mean to you?

We were asked to describe "what does 'Tribe' mean to you?" ...for me Tribe embodies unity and kinship – my miniature totems explore the idea of living in a flourishing multi-cultural society.  We find ourselves living in and experiencing a rich tapestry of human existence and with each thread we are intertwined.  I believe deep in my heart we are all one and the same, no matter what shape or colour skin we wear. 'World Kin' and 'Same Kin' explore our multi-cultural lineage while 'Beyond Perception' offers another perspective for thinking. 

 

Outside my usual art practice when being invited into a group exhibition and asked to address a theme, I always see it as an opportunity to explore other media - for me its a little like exploring the many facets of my personality for growth both inward and outward as a person.  Not being one to get stuck or bogged down in one set of thinking and going on what material appears at any given time (when sourcing my recycled materials), this time I was guided into a sense of fun and play literally with children's blocks, I was compelled to take them home with me so I did, who's one to argue with divine intervention!    Even though it may appear child like initally on the surface, each piece embody a their own individual message as is the case with all my works.

 

TRIBE exhibition opens tonight at Rosebed St Gallery from 7pm, showcasing a colourful display of many and varied works of art by local artists of all walks of life and at different stages of their artistic career with no prejudice, curated with heart Directors Annie Burns & Maya Carter-Malins inspire for us all a sense of community to embrace.

 

 

Colourful and certainly different works from what you would used to be seeing from me - I enjoyed the freedom and playful nature of each piece, here's a sneak peak...

Culture 2 Culture

Wet weather won't dampen the atmosphere for tonight's official opening of Culture 2 Culture at Rosebed St Gallery.  I just had to post the invitation on my blog, because it is so beautifully designed (thanks Noela), and looks absolutely beautiful in print - definitely a keepsake!

We're all braving the wet and cool weather to celebrate "Friendship" - I hope to see some familar faces there!  And for my overseas bloggers I will post some photos of the evening and artworks over the weekend for you all to see.

Domino tiles, vessels &

The next group show I am participating in is an exhibition of Friendship & Collaboration.  Sponsored by Sister City Friendships and the local Government fellow artists Noela Mills and Christine Elcoate travelled to Jingdeshen, Xiamen and Wushi last year connecting with many artists, on their return they conducted 4 workshops here on the Sunny Coast with Chinese artist Li Jun resulting in a collaborative exhibition Culture 2 Culture with 12 artists [Li Jun and 11 locals], and school children's works from 2 Chinese schools and 3 Sunshine Coast schools.

The centrepoint of the exhibition will be 300+ domino sized ceramic tiles - made in Australia, some glazed here by local artists, others glazed in China and brought back for the exhibition.
and now we have a collaborative exhibition at  Rosebed St Gallery, Eudlo.

The next thing on the agenda is a small collection of my assemblages are now being showcased in a current group exhibition entitled "Rosebed St Collection" at Rosebed St Gallery (pictured below)

And to add some exciting news.... on the first day of the exhibition the gallery was visited by a TV and film crew, the gallery, owners and artworks on show will feature in a popular television show in the next coming weeks.

It is a credit to Annie and Maya, their dedication has made the gallery a great success that it is, this is a well deserved reward indeed!

Small Works / Small Town + BIG crowd!

Last night's opening exhibit SMALL WORKS / SMALL TOWN saw a HUGE crowd - it was my first time at an opening for Rosebed St Gallery and far out what a crowd, it was packed!

All gathered to celebrate the official opening,

...with drinks and nibbles downstairs, in anticipation the doors were finally opened for all to view and purchase artworks.

And look who I found in the crowd! Good buddy and also exhibiting artist Jo Murray

Designed as a takeaway art show loads of artworks were literally walking out the door! Sales were shared all round, Jo and I both sold work. It was fantastic some artists were even needing to re-stock the empty spaces.

It's a busy time at the moment, and I've had no posts on art being made -it's all been about what's happening and where. I'm really missing my making time but I guess that's the ebb and flow of things. The whole idea of it I suppose is to exhibit and sell, as much as I'd like to keep everything I make...

I have posted this photo before - the day has arrived! The official opening of the SMALL WORKS / SMALL TOWN Exhibit Friday 28th Oct 6.30pm - Rosebed St Gallery, Eudlo.

I really like this piece "Unicorn" and it's story on how it evolved. A funny thing, I had this piece of steel (the body part) for ages and nothing was coming to me, I knew that something was in it but no matter how many times I picked it up and contemplated it - mental block!!! Anyhows, I let it go. Then one morning while reading "Psychology and Alchemy" by C. G. Jung, he made reference to unicorns in alchemy, and out of the blue I saw the unicorn in the piece of steel. I whipped out of bed and took off for the bit of steel and presto, the Unicorn was formed!

To my supprise the invite features my Unicorn and makes it even more special...

'Show us your Small's' Exhibition

I've been silently working away at a few assemblages the last month for an exhibition coming up in October at Rosebed Street Gallery. The concept behind this exhbition is to showcase small artworks from a selective of artists. With six to eight pieces from each artist, the artworks will be displayed over a period of 26th October, 2011 to 8th January, 2012.

Rosebed Street Gallery is also holding an on-line Tsunami Fundraiser Art Auction (click this link to view artworks up for auction). The auction will be held on ebay for a two day auction over 22nd and 23rd October, 2011. Artworks have been generously donated by local and not-so-local artists. My donation comprises a set of three RAKU fired pots.
