I have just found your photo on google image search. I was looking for it because we had a bright red thingamijig like this growing in our garden mulch after a wild storm. I wanted to know the name of it. It looked like something from another planet. Never see one before.
Hi Kim, I wanted to find out the name but also ask if anyone has noticed that it smells like, well, poop? I made the mistake of picking it bare handed and it smelt like cat poop. Did anyone else have this experience? thanks, Tess
Hi Kim, Tess again. As I continued to search I found it!! Its called Stinkhorn Fungi. I found it at Waynesword.Palomar.edu/ Thanks for such a great pic of it. Hope this is helpful to anyone searching. Thanks again :) Tess
Hi Tess, I didn't get that close and touch it, looked weird enough so I erd on the side of caution, thankfully by the sounds of it! I can see why they call it Stinkhorn Fungi then and thanks for the link as to more details! Regards, Kim
